Apprentice of the Month - June
To recognise the hard work of learners, our Tutors are nominating those who are doing exceptionally well throughout their apprenticeship to be awarded as our Apprentice of the Month.
Congratulations to Josie Pearce who has been awarded as our Apprentice of the month in June! Josie is currently completing her Level 3 Business Administration Standard Apprenticeship with Kier.
Josie is clearly an enthusiastic and motivated learner, who prides herself in doing a good job and going above and beyond what is expected of her. Her manager clearly values her contribution to the work of the team and she is a great example to others!
Josie’s manager said:
“Josie joined Kier as a receptionist and has continually pushed to understand the different roles and functions within the business, with a view to further her career within a role that will push her learning and skills in the future.
Josie has joined key meetings with other departments such as planning and design manager to get a feel for the role and where her skills or enthusiasm will grow.”
“Josie can sometimes appear lacking in confidence, however, the quality of work that she completes is of a very high standard and with a smile on her face. This should give her improved confidence as her experience grows.”
“Josie’s push to improve her skills and to gather further knowledge is inspiring to others around her. Josie regularly asks key questions and also challenges responses, rather than just take the answer as a defined conclusion.”
“During the past 3 months (Covid-19), Josie has worked from home without close supervision, this has not been an issue as the accuracy and quality of her work continues to be of a high standard. Once a task has been set Josie will action without being chased, if she is unsure, she will ask a question without hesitation.”
“For the preconstruction department Josie is responsible for obtaining, collating and submitting monthly bid reviews, a key role within the business, she is trusted fully to gather this information and submit to deadlines, something she does without being chased which is a real help within a very busy department.”
“As part of Josie’s apprenticeship course, she was asked to prepare a report on the business, how it operates, key risks and issues, together with an understanding of our key performance indicators.
Josie interviewed me so I provided her with an overview of a very complex process and business. It would have been easy for Josie to repeat my words in her report but didn’t, she expanded in detail following her own investigations, she then challenged me on her findings which helped to add more detail and understanding.
This to me demonstrates a very engaged individual who is looking to develop learning, understanding and skills going forward.”

“Josie has completed her portfolio fully after short period of time she has been with me. Her quality of work in the portfolio will definitely get that distinction. She is 80% through her project report and will be completed by our next visit. It is amazing how she has completed so much and built her confidence along the way.”
“During lockdown Josie and I have been completing our visit over Microsoft Teams. She has always attended our visit on time and sent me her work before our visit. She takes on feedback really well and is starting to build her confidence.”
“Josie fully understands what she needs to do to get that distinction. From what I am seeing so far she is definitely heading that way and is building her confidence on the way. She is a wonderful and very enthusiastic learner to work with.”
A huge well done Josie, we are sure you will fly through your EPA!
