Apprentice of the Month - March
To recognise the hard work of learners, our Tutors are nominating those who are doing exceptionally well throughout their apprenticeship to be awarded as our Apprentice of the Month.
Congratulations to our March Apprentice of the Month, Mitchell Mackenzie! Mitchell is currently completing his Level 3 Project Controls Technician Apprenticeship with National Highways and was nominated by his Tutor, Fiona and Line Manager, Julie.
Mitchell’s Line Manager, Julie:
Mitchell is a truly exceptional and inspirational young man. His line manager Julie Jobling described him during his recent review as committed, dedicated, passionate, energetic and enthusiastic – and this rubs off on others, inspiring them to grow and create new ideas when team working with him. He is a real advocate for inspiring growth and himself has a growth mindset which is benefiting him hugely whilst in learning and within his own role. He has an exceptional attitude and approach to challenges and stays motivated to work to improve his skills, he is one of the most positive, inspiring people that I have ever met.
Mitchell’s Tutor, Fiona said:
“Mitchell has recently been leading on a project within National Highways in which he planned, organised and facilitated a large-scale conference attended by 200 graduates and senior executives from National Highways suppliers to encourage and support them to get involved as part of their social value plan, whose 4 pillar aspirations are aimed at helping National Highways to increase their value to society.”
“Mitchell was quick to adapt to the increased workload and responsibility for planning and taking part in the event, working flexibly and in an agile manner, engaging with others internally and externally with people ensuring that social value is part of his organisations day-to-day work and work with suppliers to demonstrate how they can maximise the impact of their social value.”
“Mitchell is fully focused on doing the right thing at all times and would never compromise himself or his organisation ethically. He has a strong moral compass and uses his beliefs and drive to help others to achieve better outcomes.”
“The feedback received from the conference was really positive and he and his team met the objectives we wanted to achieve from it, these being to improve understanding and awareness of social value but more importantly inspire the graduates and apprentice to get more involved with driving forward social value.”
“This conference focused on social value and was for the early talent community (200 - Graduates, apprentices, year in industry) its aim was to inspire the graduates and apprentices to get involved in social value and highlight all the extra opportunities the organisation provides. This could involve promoting the amazing work Highways England do above and beyond building roads with employees taking part in recruitment activities, volunteering, taking ownership of a designated fund project, to name a few.."
“A passionate advocate of continuous professional development, Mitchell delivers excellence in all aspects of his learning and has built a strong professional relationship with his Tutor Terry Stone from our subcontract provider 2020 Project Management. He is fervent in his quest to add to his skills and knowledge and his enthusiasm for his learning journey is second to none.”
