Line Manager of the Month - June
Congratulations to our June Line Manager of the Month, Alan Barker!
Alan was nominated by LSP Tutor Fiona for his passion towards developing learner Kat within her role, who is currently completing her Level 3 Project Controls Technician Apprenticeship with United Utilities.
LSP Tutor, Fiona said:
“Alan is a fantastic mentor and manager to Kat and always ensures she has clear direction within her role. He is her biggest champion and actively encourages her to take on higher responsibilities within her role and is adaptable to changes and flexible in his approach to ensuring Kat can job shadow others in different departments to get exposure to the learning she needs to gain the technical skills and knowledge for her Diploma and apprenticeship standard.”
“When Kat was asked by the Project Control Manager to assist his team, Alan ensured that they reviewed the projects and supported Kat to put a plan in place to take them over and within a month she only needed minimal support. This was due to Alan operating ethically and doing the right thing for Kat to ensure she had all the support available to transition into taking on more responsibility.”
“Alan is very involved in all aspects of Kat’s apprenticeship and continued professional development and he tells Kat regularly to be selfish with her learning time as he truly understands and supports her career development, gives her the time she requires to complete her apprenticeship work, which he regularly reviews with her . He attends all her progress reviews with myself and Kat, reads all her Tutor feedback and gives her ideas for further development on the job.”
“Alan is inspirational as a line manager, is fully invested in Kat’s growth and professional development and has her in training to take over from him when he retires!!! He challenges her thinking and inspires her to be the best she can be at everything she does.”
“An advocate of learning, Alan is passionate about developing Kat, takes pride in her achievements and inspires her to stretch and challenge herself. He is committed to celebrating her success and encourages and supports her to achieve great things in learning, such as entering our National Apprenticeship Week competition and driving her success by being keen to support her and enter her for industry awards. As a Tutor, I think every apprentice needs an Alan as their manager!!! He is a fantastic mentor to Kat, and I will absolutely guarantee that 20 years down the line when Kat is asked the question who inspired you in your career – her answer will be ALAN BARKER!!!”
