Haroon Hussain - Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

My Story, My Apprenticeship

My name is Haroon Hussain. I work at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and my job role is a Business Admin Apprentice.

My responsibilities are to complete basic tasks whilst I learn off-the-job training. I handle confidential and sensitive data and apply my IT knowledge within my job role. In addition, I use my English and maths skills whilst replying to email queries or updating records. My day-to-day duties include giving out and resetting passwords to log in users using the ESR (Electronic Staff Record) website and using the OLM (Oracle Learning Management) matrix application. I record fit mask sheets onto the OLM matrix, recording signing in sheets onto the drive and the ESR website. I reply to and answer NLMS queries by using the Outlook application and phone calls, updating the learner’s matrix. I also update certified courses on the user’s matrix using the ESR website and OLM matrix application. I scan in and record sign-in sheets onto ESR and to the Windows Network Drive. Finally, I update user guides regarding the ESR website by adapting the recent user guides that were saved on Microsoft Word.

This job role attracted me because I have been able to find this ‘one of a kind’ opportunity that is compatible with my interests as one of my career ambitions is to be a Business Administrator. I wanted this job because I am determined to work hard to able to meet deadlines and learn new tasks on the job whilst achieving a Level 3 Business Administration qualification.

What I like about my apprenticeship is that I am able to communicate with my colleagues, achieve qualifications in the job role and learn the tasks whilst on the job. I like my team as they all respect me and vice versa, everyone in the department appreciates the organisation. I find Learning Skills Partnership interesting and exciting; I am building my knowledge and achieving the qualification by working hard with determination. I also find it enjoyable and fun, especially the group workshops, as it is a great addition towards our qualification to be able to participate in group discussions and activities.

My apprenticeship is helping me achieve my career goals. By discussing my personal development plan this helps me to improve my goals one step at a time. My team help me with various tasks that I find difficult or not able to understand. I am developing my IT skills, giving me an understanding of the different applications to answer the many inbox queries on Microsoft Outlook. The apprenticeship has helped me with communicating with other members of staff, answering their queries regarding their accounts on the website or their courses. It also helps me by discussing my performance and improvements within the job role.

My advice to new apprentices is that you should never give up, always show your confidence and determination with various tasks and ask your colleagues for any help with tasks you find difficult because you will learn these new skills every day in your job role.

Employers should offer Apprenticeship opportunities because young people such as myself depend on them to reach their potential, learn and gain experience from job roles. To achieve, and furthermore, it could lead to a better horizon towards their career. One person can make a difference to change…
