Building The Future of our Construction Learners

As part of National Apprenticeship week we would like to acknowledge the amazing work that our HNC learners have submitted towards their individual projects. The group recently attended our Head Office for two weeks to work on their assessments which included two reports and a 30 minute presentation. In addition to completing their work relating to the unit, LSP Tutor, Peter Lister, carried out a Professional Discussion with each of the Quantity Surveying students, this was aimed at covering of the type of questions they are likely to face at End Point Assessment (EPA).

Buckingham Group, Kier, Costain, Countryside Properties and Stanner Ltd learners working on their presentations.

We would like to thank Josh and Jasdeep, Commercial Managers at JN Bentley, for attending during the two week block to observe learner presentations. Here’s what they had to say:

JN Bentley learners working on their presentations.

“Once again thanks for inviting us along to watch the presentations it was great to see some of the learnings and presentations skills first hand. Overall I felt the standard of the presentations was very good, especially considering the subject matter isn’t something the QS apprentices will generally get involved in day to day. Clearly the health and safety side of things is something they need to be well aware of to work in industry so it was pleasing to see the apprentices are progressing in this respect. Some of the presentations clearly took a lot of time and effort to put together and were of a standard I would have expected of a much more senior member of the commercial team, again great to see.”

 Josh Clarke

“The apprentices that presented during the morning whilst I was there I think did very well! You could see from their slides that they had really thought about the topic and covered the criteria for their assessment. They spoke and presented with confidence and answered the questions we asked in good detail.”

Build The Future

In line with the National Apprenticeship Week theme, we asked our HNC learners their thoughts on how their apprenticeship has helped build their future:

“This apprenticeship has allowed me to gain valuable knowledge and the training I require to ensure I have all the tools necessary to progress within my chosen field. I am constantly learning and with LSP I am able to enjoy all of the stages of my development. I truly believe I am gaining the best experience I could, readying me for what my future career holds, and allowing me to reach my aspirations.”

Zack Short – Quantity Surveyor – Anglian Water

“This apprenticeship has really improved my future, it has helped my confidence grow by working around different people which allows me to take on new challenges which I would never have done.”

Harry Johnson – Apprentice Quantity Surveyor – JN Bentley

“My apprenticeship has helped me gain a better understanding of general site works which I can take into my day to day works when on site. It has also developed my speaking skills in public through doing presentations in front of LSP managers and JN Bentley managers.”

Lewis Street – Apprentice Quantity Surveyor – JN Bentley

“The road to success is always under construction.”

Tony Bliss – Trainee Quantity Surveyor – Countryside Properties

“How the apprenticeship will help build my future is by preparing me in a variety of topics that I will use in the future. The apprenticeship gives me the chance to practice setting out and construction techniques on site to help better my understanding and help me progress for the future. The apprenticeship scheme with LSP also gives me the chance to speak to experienced construction workers and use their experience to help better myself.”

Manvinder Singh – Apprentice Site Engineer – JN Bentley

“This apprenticeship has helped become more organised and confident in completing assignments and reports to a high standard and achieving good grades. I have met a number of people in the same job as me and in the same situation in our careers allowing us to help each other.”

Thomas Wootton – Apprentice Quantity Surveyor – JN Bentley

“My apprenticeship has shaped my future as I’ve been able to make money while learning a hard trade, which I thoroughly have enjoyed.”

Joe Sumnall – Apprentice Quantity Surveyor – JN Bentley

“My apprenticeship has given me the skills to be a valuable member of the work place with real life experience and no uni debt!”

Dylan Russell - Apprentice Quantity Surveyor - Buckingham Group

“My apprenticeship has helped shape my future...

Working with the other apprentices as a team has really helped solidify my progress towards my future goals.”

Angus Bentley - JN Bentley - Quantity Surveyor

A huge thank you to all involved during the two weeks! We wish our learners the very best of luck throughout their apprenticeships and look forward to seeing them progress into their dream roles.
