Get to know the the LSP Team
As part of a regular feature we would like to give an insight into the LSP team members. It is always nice to find out a little more about those we work alongside and many of our staff have a wealth of knowledge, interests and hobbies that would really surprise you!
Meet Jan Marshall
Support Coach
What sort of duties do you have at work?
In my role as Support Coach, I carry out progress reviews for our Construction leaners. I talk to them about their knowledge, skills, and behaviours they have developed throughout their learning journey. I support them with their progress, making sure they are on track and checking on their wellbeing. Part of my role is to discuss wider topics with learners building up resilience, confidence, and independence. I also maintain learner records through our e-portfolio learner system which keeps track of attendance, off the job tracker and evidence.
What is the most exciting part of your job?
I really enjoy speaking to learners and hearing all about the progress and the achievements they have made since our last review. It is great to see their success and be able to share this with them.
What is the best place you have travelled to?
One of my favourite pass times is travelling and I have been lucky enough to travel to some wonderful places around the world. So, this question is quite a difficult one for me to answer, as I could certainly pick a few places. If I had to pick one, it would be Alaska. The scenery is just stunning, and the wildlife is amazing. To be so close to a humpback whale and a brown bear feeding her cubs a fresh salmon was unforgettable.
Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
Trying to keep fit by doing the occasional 10K for charity, Race for Life and Solstice Walks.
Do you have any pets?
I have a 19-month-old Golden Retriever called Jeff who regularly takes me for walks and would love to come on my progress reviews! He is completely crazy and well loved by other dog walkers in our neighbourhood as he is always keen to say hello!
What do you do in your spare time (if you have any)?
I love to travel and visit places in this country and abroad. I also enjoy taking part in murder, mystery evenings and medieval evenings with friends.
What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement would be becoming a Mum to my son and now watching him grow up and being able to share in his success.
What is the dream car you would love to drive?
Definitely a Range Rover Sport, but not sure you would see me over the steering wheel.
The best piece of advice you would give to your 16-year-old self?
Without doubt to grab every opportunity with both hands and make the most of it.
