Maristela Leach - Telent Technology
NAW Case Study
I am currently working as a Project Manager at Telent Technology, which is in the Technology industry. In my day-to-day role, I am responsible for managing projects, collaborating with teams, handling customer inquiries, etc. This role allows me to develop both my technical skills and interpersonal abilities as I work with various departments to contribute to the company's goals. It's a dynamic environment, where no two days are the same, and I enjoy the variety of tasks I handle on a regular basis.
My apprenticeship has been a pivotal part of my career development. It has not only given me the hands-on experience that is crucial in my field but also provided me with formal qualifications that have opened doors to progression opportunities. Before starting my apprenticeship, I had limited experience in this industry, but now, thanks to the training, I have grown into my current role and am considered a valuable team member. The combination of practical experience and education has enhanced my skill set, making me more confident in my abilities and in my career trajectory.
One of the things I appreciate most about my apprenticeship is the balance between learning and applying knowledge in a real-world context. I find that I am able to directly see the impact of what I learn in training, whether it’s a new technical skill or a soft skill such as communication. The support from mentors and colleagues has been crucial in helping me navigate challenges and progress in my career, and I am grateful for the structured learning environment the apprenticeship offers.
In my opinion, apprenticeships provide significant benefits, both for individuals and businesses. For individuals, apprenticeships offer a unique chance to learn on the job while earning a wage, which reduces the financial burden that often comes with full-time education. Additionally, apprenticeships offer a clear pathway to career advancement and skill development, which is something that traditional academic routes sometimes lack.
For employers, apprenticeships bring fresh talent and innovative ideas into the workplace. By offering apprenticeships, employers can train individuals according to the specific needs and culture of their organisation, ensuring a better fit for the company in the long run. Moreover, apprentices are often highly motivated and bring a strong sense of loyalty to the employer once their training is complete.
I would absolutely recommend apprenticeships to others because they provide a fantastic opportunity to gain both practical experience and formal qualifications. The ability to earn a wage while learning is invaluable, and apprenticeships offer the chance to get a foot in the door of industries that might otherwise seem out of reach. Additionally, the mentorship and networking opportunities that come with an apprenticeship are key for personal and professional growth. If you're eager to build your career while gaining practical skills, an apprenticeship is an excellent choice.
Employers should offer apprenticeships because they help to nurture the next generation of talent in the workforce. Apprenticeships allow companies to cultivate individuals who understand the company culture and who are trained in the specific skills needed for the role. By offering these opportunities, businesses can foster a dedicated and skilled workforce, while also contributing to the local economy and providing meaningful career pathways for young people. Apprenticeships are a win-win situation, ensuring that companies have access to skilled employees while also helping to reduce skill gaps in the industry.
