Get to know the the LSP Team
As part of a regular feature we would like to give an insight into the LSP team members. It is always nice to find out a little more about those we work alongside and many of our staff have a wealth of knowledge, interests and hobbies that would really surprise you!
Meet Robert Brocklesby
Tutor
What sort of duties do you have at work?
I feel very privileged to have been picked by LSP to take part in the ‘Taking Teaching Further’ initiative. This is a Department of Education scheme where a candidate with relevant industry experience can be put through a formal teaching qualification. The qualification will be undertaken over the course of the next 2 years alongside me working in a tutoring role at LSP. At present I am beginning to undertake teaching and learning sessions around Customer Service and will eventually move on to develop and deliver the Level 4 Sales Executive Apprenticeship which I am very excited about.
What is the most exciting part of your job?
I have only just started my journey at LSP but I have enjoyed learning again. Having just completed my first teaching and learning session with an Apprentice I can say I loved it! I think no two learners will be the same and so it’s a wonderful and exciting opportunity to see how my students will progress and flourish, over time.
What is the best place you have travelled to?
For my 40th Birthday I travelled to Canada with 3 of my oldest and dearest friends. We went on a 5-day guiding fishing trip on the Fraser River. It was an amazing experience with lots of memories made, including catching a 9ft Sturgeon – No I am not joking!
Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
I have played the guitar and sung since I was very young. I have played in many bands over the years. The highlight would be playing with a youth orchestra in front of the magic castle in Disneyland Paris.
Do you have any pets?
Nope, I am pet free…
What do you do in your spare time (if you have any)?
I love to keep fit. I swim, bike and run, undertaking some form of training on most days. I also do something called Calisthenics, which has similarities to gymnastics as it uses bodyweight rather than fixed weights for strength training.
I also like to play my guitar and sing when I get the chance.
What is your greatest achievement?
Becoming a dad. I love my son Henry to bits! Beyond that I guess it would be gaining a First Class Honours Degree in Retail Management from Loughborough University. I was awarded the Student of the Year award for each of the 3 years I was there. It had never been done before or since, to my knowledge.
What is the dream car you would love to drive?
I am not a huge petrol head but I’d be more than happy with an Audi Q5 if I had the choice and the funds, of course…
The best piece of advice you would give to your 16-year-old self?
I first heard this quote when watching Kung Fu Panda with my son Henry! I loved it.
“The future is a mystery, the past is history, NOW is a gift, that's why it's called the present”.
So, I would encourage my 16-year-old self to be “present” in the ‘now’ as much as possible rather than dwelling on the past or projecting too far into the future. Ultimately the only thing that’s real is the step you are taking at this moment. That fact is so simple yet so powerful at the same time.
